EPISODE 4 | Nora Kramer | Youth Empowered Action (YEA) Camp

Nora Kramer is that rare breed of human who came up with a great idea—in this case, a social-justice summer camp—and turned her creative vision into reality. Way back in 2009, she launched Youth Empowered Action (YEA) Camp, a non-profit summer camp for teens who want to make a difference in the world, and nearly a decade later, the camp continues to evolve and expand to give even more people the opportunity to become changemakers.

YEA Camp is special in many ways, including the fact that all the food served is vegan! And this year, in addition to two youth camps in Massachusetts and California, YEA Camp is launching its first camp for adults the week of 4th of July at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, 90 minutes north of New York City. Besides a chance for grown-ups to relive (or experience for the first time) the summer-camp experience of childhood, it’s also an opportunity to develop activism-oriented skills that will serve themselves, their communities, and the causes that matter to them the most.

Besides all things YEA Camp-related, in today’s podcast, Nora shares some of her own insights and experiences on traveling on the cheap, plus tips for vegan travelers who want to make a positive impact not just at home, but out in the world, too.
